VAT refund rules change from 1 July

VAT refund rules are changing from 1 July

From 1 July, the procedure for obtaining a VAT refund on cross-border purchases will undergo significant changes. Swiss and French customs will no longer handle the other country’s export formalities for VAT refunds.

This means that Swiss consumers wishing to claim a VAT refund on purchases made in France will have to go through a staffed French border post. Likewise, French consumers will have to go to a staffed customs post in Switzerland to recover VAT on purchases made in Switzerland.

It is important to note that import declarations must still be filed in the declaration boxes in Switzerland. To facilitate this process, goods can be cleared through customs using the mobile app "QuickZoll".

If you need further assistance regarding the new VAT refund rules, we encourage you to contact our team at SuisseFidu.
